You are invited to the culminating concert of Manhattan Concert Productions’ 2024 Season–Requiem–at Carnegie Hall on June 17th!

For this auspicious occasion, Jerry Blackstone is primed to conduct the Masterwork Festival Chorus, New York City Chamber Orchestra and soloists in a breathtaking rendition of Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem. This pillar of the repertoire is a beloved setting of the Requiem texts. Duruflé uses medieval melodies from the Mass of the Dead as a basis for many of the musical themes throughout the piece, and it’s these plainsong chants that inspire the rhythmic fluidity pervading throughout this 9-movement masterpiece.

As a complement to the Duruflé, the evening will feature a performance from the Brazeal Dennard Chorale, an ensemble that–for 50 years– has been committed to remembering, discovering and preserving the music of African American composers. Nationally known for its expressive renditions of African American music in the choral tradition, the Brazeal Dennard Chorale is one of the oldest organizations of its kind in the nation.
