Rising China: What It Means for the World
Wednesday, October 24, 7pm
Central Library, Dr. S. Stevan Dweck Cultural Center

For the first time in more than two hundred and fifty years, we are witnessing a change in the world order, going from Euro-American predominance to the one where Asia—led by China and to a lesser extent by India and Japan—is again ascendant. Yet, it’s fair to say that Americans’ understanding of Asia remains limited: rooted in western assumptions on the one hand and somewhat distant knowledge of Asian realities on the other.
Dr. Vishakha N. Desai joins China experts Howard French, Jiayang Fan and Arthur Kroeber to ask questions and explore possibilities.  How should we think about the contemporary power dynamics in Asia in the context of their millennial cultures? What are the implications of this power shift on the global stage?

The event is free and open to the public while tickets last. Please register here
