America’s Death Penalty Problem
An ACLU Panel at The Cooper Union

Part of The Cooper Union’s Right Makes Might series, this free event will focus on why states around the nation are turning their back on the death penalty at the same moment the federal government is reinstating it.

Thursday’s panel discussion will begin with a clip of the Sundance-winning film Clemency. Writer/director Chinonye Chukwu and award-winning actors Alfre Woodard and Aldis Hodge will join the ACLU’s Jeffery Robinson for a conversation about the themes portrayed in the film. Opening on December 27, Clemency addresses the emotional and psychological toll the death penalty takes on those forced to carry it out. They will then turn it over to a larger panel of people closest to the issue — activists, lawyers, an exoneree, a journalist — for a conversation about the current state of the death penalty in America.

Thursday, October 10 at 6:30 PM (doors open at 5:30 PM)
Great Hall at The Cooper Union
7 East 7th Street
New York, NY 10003
