Beat the Heat with BAMcinématek’s Summer Film Series

Film enthusiasts will have plenty to look forward to this summer at BAMcinématek, with appearances by filmmakers, actors, and critics — and three screening series to satisfy genre loyalists.

The “Southern Gothic” series, running June 26 through July 11, explores 16 perverse tales of the macabre from below the Mason-Dixon line, including Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, A Streetcar Named Desire, and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

“Edgar Wright Presents Heist Society,” curated by Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright, presents 22-films June 27 through July 23 centered on the heist film — including Dog Day Afternoon, Ocean’s Eleven, and Point Break.

Finally, what’s summer without camp? From July 12-18, “Notes on Camp” features Meatballs, Friday the 13th, Wet Hot American Summer, and seven others that will take you back to those days of uncomfortably short shorts and socks pulled up to the knees.
