ongoing: hart island walking tours: for the first time, the parks department is offering free public tours of hart island in the bronx, america’s largest public cemetery. although currently only used for city burials, the island has housed a quarantine station, a psychiatric hospital, a military base, and a jail over the years. >>

thru 3/21: the rink at brookfield place is open for the season: $15-27 admission, $5-7 skate rental (or byo). >>

tues thru 1/7/2024 (closed mondays, thanksgiving, christmas, and new year’s day): charles dickens’s a christmas carol at the morgan: once again this holiday season, charles dickens’s original manuscript of a christmas carol will be on display at the morgan library + museum (murray hill). included with regular admission ($22 general, $14 seniors, $13 students, free admission fridays 5-7pm with rsvp). >>

tues 6pm:miller theater’s pop-up concert series: russell greenberg: the columbia university school of the arts’s musical happy hour returns for a new season of free concerts where the audience is permitted to sit onstage with the performers and enjoy a free drink. tonight: percussionist and yarn/wire ensemble founder russell greenberg performs percussion works by houben, mcintosh, akama, branzson, and frey. trumpeter nate wooley joins for a duo. columbia university’s miller theatre (morningside heights), free admission. >>

tues 6:30pm: isaac butler and zoe kazaon on the method: join director, culture writer, and author of the method: how the twentieth century learned to act isaac butler and actor, producer, and writer zoe kazan (the big sick, the ballad of buster scruggs) for a conversation about the history of method acting and its impact on american culture. kazan is also the granddaughter of elia kazan, co-founder of the actors studio which introduced method acting to america. center for brooklyn history (brooklyn heights), free admission. >>
